Food and Drink

South Africa is a flourishing agricultural region which has excellent meat, wines, and fruits. South Africa also provides very cheap and fresh sea foods. Most of the cities have excellent range of hotels and restaurants where all types of international cuisines are available. Cape Town has the sweet cape Malay dishes. Kwazulu-Natal cost has the genuine Asian foods. The famous national recipes are Mozambican peri peri chicken and prawns.

Things to know

Restaurant, hotels, bars, cocktail lounges etc have the waiter facility. You are asked to pay your bill at the last. Some of the restaurants are found to be closed on Sunday or Monday.

Liquor shops are open on all weekdays from 9.00 AM to 18.00 PM and on Saturday from 9.00 AM to 13.00 AM.

Supermarkets have permissions to sell only the wines and not the beer or spirits. And no alcohol is sold on Sundays.

Shopping

South Africa can be called as the land of mega mall. Still many more buildings are under construction for shopping. The shopping centers are very large which will be opened for long hours with hundreds of car parking facilities. Some shopping centers apart from shops they have cinema halls, banks, post offices, restaurants, fast-food centers and supermarkets.

The largest shopping center is the Gateway Mall in Durban in the southern part and the second comes the Canal Walk in Cape Town. Johannesburg also has the biggest shopping mall namely Eastgate and Southgate.

The normal shopping hours are:

Monday to Friday – 9.00 AM to 17.00 PM.
Saturday – 9.00 AM to 14.00 PM

Some stores are opened for 24 hours in the cities.
